Taiwan beats S Korea in

Taiwan trumped South Korea 5-1 at the U12 Asian Baseball Championship in
Japan on Friday (Nov. 29). In the preliminaries, Taiwan recorded two wins and
one loss, the only loss being a 0-1 defeat to South Korea, per CNA. In the
semifinals, Taiwan defeated China and Japan in succession to advance to the
championship game, where they faced Korea again and avenged their previous loss.

Lai 1st Taiwan president
to visit Guam legislature

President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) became the first
Taiwanese president in history to visit the Legislature of Guam on Thursday
(Dec. 5). Lai was invited to visit Guam's governing body in the morning.

'Taiwan Travelogue'
shortlisted for US National Book Award
An English translation of the novel "Taiwan Travelogue" by Yang
Shuang-zi (楊双子) was shortlisted for the US
National Book Award and recently appeared in a book review by the New York
Times. Yang and translator Lin King (金翎) attended a press
conference at the Taipei Cultural Center in New York City ahead of the award
ceremony on Wednesday (Nov. 20), per CNA.

Taiwan sees 30% increase
in individuals with cataracts under 55

Doctors said it is not just the elderly who have cataracts, as the number
of people under the age of 55 undergoing cataract surgery in Taiwan is increasing
at a rate of 30% per year. Poor vision, poor contrast, and reduced color
differentiation are all telltale signs of cataracts. In its most severe form,
cataracts may cause blindness, per CNA.
